Butterfly Garden- Gillette School
Created in 1997 by Kindergarten Teacher Beverly Bernhard, the Butterfly Garden at Gillette is a beautiful place for children to learn about gardening and butterflies all at once. The PTO provides support for the butterfly garden by paying for tools and supplies, scheduling clean-up and planting days and organizing volunteers to water during the summer. One volunteer is required to arrange fall and spring clean-up days, and the summer watering schedule. This individual may also solicit donations of plants, seeds, bulbs, and mulch if needed.
Learning Garden- Millington School
The Millington Learning Garden, created in 1997, is a living example of the cooperative efforts among parents, teachers, and students of Millington School. The enclosed courtyard at Millington has been turned into a garden that is maintained by parents and students. Knowlege of gardening is helpful in order to develop the schedule of activities for the classes in both the fall and spring. New for 2006/07, the PTO, along with our districts Education Foundation (F.O.R.C.E), funded the installation and supplies for a new patio, benches, and weather station! This is a wonderful addition to this space!
